Painting the Stories of San Antonio’s Westside

Crystal Tamez says you’ll find a lot of passion and fight in the people of San Antonio’s West Side.

She’s an artist working to create and preserve murals on the West Side.

The West Side is her home. She grew up there, still lives there, and loves her neighborhood. Growing up there, however, meant she did not always have access to the same opportunities as those born in other areas of the city.

Crystal overcame her obstacles, though, and she is determined to encourage others in her community to do the same. Today, Crystal works to inspire her community and helps them express themselves through art, especially through her work with youth at San Anto Cultural Arts. You won’t believe what they did to her car!
